Greening Brayford Pool

Greening Brayford Pool

The historic Brayford Pool holds the title of being England’s oldest inland port.  Once central to Lincoln’s industrial growth, it became run-down by the 1960’s. Since the 1990’s, the waterfront has been transformed into Lincoln’s premier recreation area, but the aquatic environment remained poor.

East Mercia Rivers Trust in partnership with the Environment Agency, the City of Lincoln Council, the Brayford Trust and the University of Lincoln led the installation of floating ecosystems. These have transformed the hard-edged banks into living water parks providing a multitude of wildlife and community benefits.

The aim of the partners is to complete the perimeter of Brayford Pool by installing floating ecosystems along the Northern Bank from Wagamama’s to the University Student Union Barge. The Gallery provides the visuals of what this will look like.
