With recent flooding focusing attention on rivers, EMRT engaged Ian Simmons to support the development of a flood response scheme working with the most affected towns and villages across the Witham and Welland catchments. Ian has been meeting local communities, collating information on schemes that have been successfully implemented elsewhere and liaising with the statutory authorities.
As the climate crisis grows local intel is not only vital in responding to an ever-increasing flood threat, but also helps identify problems to the authorities and sites that could be restored to ‘slow the flow’. As a charity with a track record in implementing river restoration, EMRT can support communities with project development and fundraising should an opportunity arise.
Ian, with a background in sales and marketing, has extensive volunteer engagement experience in his capacity as the co-leader of Grantham RiverCare. With a keen interest in environmental issues Ian also chairs Wyndham Park Forum and has directly been involved in fundraising and project delivery with several local conservation bodies.
